I just learned a painful lesson! I got bitten by a Brown Recluse Spider, which caused me great pain and fever, so I needed to rest and recover. I’m feeling better since, and my Brown Recluse Spider bite has actually allowed me to learn some great lessons from pain that I want to share.
Pain happens. It ought to happen as we go about life. You can’t get around it. Whether there’s work that needs to be done at your practice, or maintenance work at home, pain is inevitable. What’s not required, however, is suffering.
I’ve recently learned that being bitten by a spider is interpreted as a warning to pay closer attention to your thoughts and feelings, according to Native Canadian wisdom. If you’ve gone through or are going through some form of suffering (like my spider bite) could it be that you need to become aware of how powerful your thoughts can be?
Your thoughts are what you become, and you are what you think. This means that if you want to change your reality, you must first change the way that you think. You don’t have to wait for a painful lesson on suffering, in my case a Brown Recluse spider bite, to remind you of this.
Ask yourself, what are you doing or what thoughts do you have that derail your self-development? Are you self-sabotaging without necessarily being aware of it? Do you have people around you who stop you from getting to your most authentic and best self? What causes you to SUFFER?
Hopefully, you won’t have to experience harsh lessons from pain of a Brown Recluse Spider bite before you take ahold of your thoughts, change them for the better, and stop your own suffering.
