life coachingThe study of history teaches us that every influential leader that has made an impact on humanity to date has had an advisor or advisors to give them council and advice when making decisions about the most optimal course of action in their life or business. This practice dates back to earliest recorded history and gives the leader the benefit of other perspectives and points of view that they may not be aware of before making a decision. These individuals and/or groups have been major influences without being the actual leaders. Let me give you some examples.

Merlin was a trusted advisor to King Arthur during the tenure of the Knights of the Round Table. Every new pope in the Catholic church appoints advisors, usually bishops, to assist him and advise him in the performance of his duties. Benjamin Franklin was an advisor to the leaders of the early American colonies and later became a key player in the birth of the United States as one of the founding fathers.

Advisors have long been a part of the military and very much leaned upon during times of crisis and war. Yelü Chucai was a trusted advisor to Genghis Khan who once ruled most of the known world. Frederick Lindemann was an English physicist who was an influential scientific advisor to Winston Churchill during the Second World War. Joseph Goebbels and Rudolph Hess are probably the two most well known advisors to Adolf Hitler during the Nazi reign in Germany during the same time frame.

The world of business, politics and finance has always relied on advisors to help those leaders make the most optimal decisions possible. Bill Gates has long held the advice and counsel of Warren Buffet among the key reasons he was able to build the Microsoft brand and the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation to the heights they have achieved. Jack Welch, Paul Zane Pilzer and Anne Mulchahy are among some of the many advisors the Presidents of the United States have come to rely on for feedback and advice on key economic ideas and principles.

At an early age in my life and business career I realized that if having trusted advisors were good enough for these key figures in history than it was definitely good enough for me. To the degree I am a success in my ideal, I would say the one factor that has contributed more to that success than anything else would be attracting and working with great advisors, mentors and coaches in my life. Why would I want to discover fire when all I really wanted was to be warm? Why would I want to learn the intricacies of modern economics if all I wanted was offer my authentic services to the world and provide for my family with the proceeds.
