“I am not really sure why I am calling Doc, I mean my life is pretty good. I have a beautiful wife, a cool son, a solid practice that allows me to serve humanity the way I choose to and the bonus is I make a really nice six figure income doing it.”He stated on our first exploratory coaching call.
“So why are you considering hiring a small business coach?”I asked curiously
“Well the truth is I am not as fulfilled as I thought I would be at this stage of my life and career. I mean on the surface it all looks great and I truly am happy most of the time but ………. “ his voice trailed off and a gap in the conversation ensued.
“But what” I gently prodded
“I just feel like there may be more. More to give, more to learn, more to love, more to live” he exclaimed with passion.
“What makes you feel that?” I questioned
“I am not sure doc but if I am truly honest with myself and you I am bored a decent percentage of the time. I have reached a relative level of competence or mastery of my profession, things are great at home, my friends are cool and we hang out regularly, I am in pretty decent shape for my age …… but ……… “
“There is that but again” I quipped.
“Yeah I know …… is there something wrong with me?” he asked. “I mean a lot of people would love to have my life, but there is that little nagging but that continues to gnaw at me and prod me into looking for an answer that has ultimately lead me to you. I mean I took the time to check you and your coaching team out and you have killer testimonials and you have definitely been there and done that yourself so I figured if anyone would get me it might be you.” He stated
“Yeah I get where you are coming from as I have lived through exactly what you are living through. Wondering whether I was crazy or just wasn’t experiencing enough gratitude since on the surface everything in my life was awesome, very similar in fact to the grocery list of great things in your life that you mentioned earlier. But I could not shake the nagging feeling within that there was more that I could live, more I could love, more I could experience. Yes ……. I get where you are coming from.” I stated.
“So what is the solution doc?” he asked quickly.
“Well the solution is really simple it is just not that easy. We go back into what makes you truly YOU and we identify what drives you from your core. Why you do what you do and what contribution you want to make to humanity as a result of getting that clarity. Then we lay out a short term, mid term and long term vision for EXACTLY what that contribution will look like throughout the hologram of your life. We then reverse engineer back to what you need to focus on this year, this quarter, this month, this week and this day to move you steadfastly forward in the direction of your dreams. As I said, simple just not necessarily easy.” I said without taking a breath.
“Where do I sign up and who do I make the cheque out to?” he asked.
Lets now flash forward to a year after that conversation to see if it is possible for a very successful person to move forward with their life and business as a result of listening to the wee small voice within and taking action.
